Coffee Lake Processor – i7-8700k
The core i7-8700k that we’re reviewing today are member of Intel’s 8th generation core series. There is an interesting thing about intel processors names: “Coffee Lake was named in a very, very early meeting,” Tripp told us. “The planner admitted to being in a state of extreme coffee need…It gets interesting every single time…Everyone has an opinion.”
i7-8700k was launched on October 5, 2017 and even now it is a very powerful processor. If you already have or are planning to buy this processor price (for a good) – do it.
I7-8700k fits LGA Socket 1151 (Sounds good does not work)
i7-8700k is built on the improved 14 nm ++ process. A very important part about i7-8700k – it fits in the same socket as 6th and 7th gen processors. It is the first time in decade, that intels processor fit in the same socket for three generations. Even though it is fiting it socket it still does not work on older motherboards (because of the new z370 chipset). I7-8700k will work on B360, H310M, Z370M, H370 type of motherboards.
i7-8700k Maximum Supported RAM speed
More mhz speed is always better for a lot of performance reasons. Max RAM speed is determined by your motherboard. For example, your CPU will only support a maximum of 2666MHz unless you are using a Z370 or Z390 motherboard. With that being said, Intel still benefits substantially from faster RAM, there can still be gains as high as 20% in some games when going from 2400 to 4200MHz in dual channels RAM.
Good Motherboard for i7-8700k
Good Z390 motherboard for i7-8700k is Aorus z370 Gaming.
Aorus z370 Gaming supports 9th and 8th Intel Core processors and also supports DDR4 RAM which speed of 4400 MHz.
Best RAM for i7-8700k
If you have z370 or z390 type of motherboard, then we suggest to go with a higher ram speed (MHz) of at least 3200 MHz. Another important specification of RAM is CL – The lower the CAS latency, the better. CAS latency can be referred to in several different ways. A RAM kit with a CAS latency of 16, for example, can be described as CAS 16 or CL16 or as having CAS 16 timings.
If you have motherboard type of z370 or z390 – take at least 2×8 gb of 3200 MHz (cl 16 max) or 3600 MHz ram. Better specifications almost always mean higher prices.
We suggest to take something similar to – Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16.
If you have bigger budget you can always take – TEAMGROUP T-Force Xtreem ARGB 3600MHz CL14 16GB.

Freaquntly asked questions (FAQ)
Is the i7 8700K good for gaming?
Yes, i7-8700k (4.70 GHz) has 6 cores and 12 threads and can be easily overlocked to about 5GHz (Don’t forget to mount a good cooler). So the answer is a strong YES, it is almost identical due performance to i9 9900k in gaming.
Is i7 8700K better than i7 7700K?
Yes, but if you already have i7-7700k it does not woth to upgrade, because you will need to change the motherboard also.
Is the i7 8700K good in 2021?
Yes, it is more than good for regular gamers, but if you are a hardcore player you need to start thinking about upgrading.
Is 8700K better than 9700K?
No, but only 1 percent of the performance in these two processors.
Is it worth upgrading from 8700K to 9700K?
No, unless you find it for a good price, otherwise they are almost the same in performance.
