Unofficial reason of brown color
Everyone almost agrees that the brown Noctua fans are so recognizable because of color. Therefore, when you open the PC case side or just through the PC case glass side with a brown fan, it is clear that there is a Noctua fan inside. Many folks agree that its stands out from the competition.
Some like this color. Others find it challenging to adapt to another computer component. Most likely because of this, in 2019, Noctua released chromax.black CPU coolers.
Official reason of brown color
We wrote to Noctua.at and tried to ask them why Noctua fans chose brown. We soon received an answer that surprised us. I was surprised because the response was rapid and friendly.

As you can see, we sent an email to ask why iconic Noctua fans are brown. And only after two days do we get an email letter back (we wrote an email on Sunday, so maybe after one day :D).

Noctua NH-D15
Everyone probably knows the iconic Noctua NH-D15, NH-U12S, and NH-L9i CPU coolers. From 2016 to the present, Noctua CPU coolers win the prestigious European Hardware community Award every year in the BEST CPU COOLER (AIR) category. 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021.
From my experience, as much as I used Noctua Fans, they were all built with superb quality and they are worth every penny. I had to use other similarly priced or cheaper CPU coolers. They all couldn’t compare to the Noctua in terms of noise and temp.
Below is a video review of the Noctua DH-15 Linus discussed earlier. No matter how long it was done, this cooler still cools even the latest, most powerful CPUs incredibly well.
But what if you still don’t like the current brown? There is a method we do not recommend. Therefore, if you try to repaint, take responsibility.
How to change Noctua fan color?
We are not responsible for a damaged fan.
Noctua CPU cooler can be coated with a thin layer of paint, thus changing its color. But it would be best if you were extra careful when recoloring. Also, the paint layer should be even, as unallocated paint can cause wobbling, followed by vibration and annoying noise.
We offer to buy just a black Noctua (chromax.black) CPU cooler and solve the dilemma.
